Exterior Grid Expansion

Outdoor Electrical Installation

Electricity and water are a lethal combination. Ready Electric engineers weatherproof, code-compliant exterior grids for outdoor kitchens, security networks, and landscape illumination—built to withstand the harshest elements.

Diagnostic Warning: Exterior Hazards

Outdoor electricity requires specialized materials and strict adherence to LA County codes. Ready Electric routinely corrects these lethal DIY exterior failures.

VAPOR INTRUSION

Standard Receptacles

Installing indoor-rated outlets outside invites moisture directly into your electrical grid, causing rapid corrosion, continuous breaker trips, and severe shock hazards.

CODE VIOLATION

Improper Trenching

Burying standard Romex wire an inch under the dirt is illegal. Without proper depth, conduit, or UF-B (Underground Feeder) cable, a simple shovel strike becomes fatal.

LETHAL FAULT

No GFCI Protection

Exterior power sources near pools, sprinklers, or rain zones without Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI) will fail to cut power during a water-induced short circuit.

UV DEGRADATION

Sun-Rot Wiring

Exposed interior wiring running along exterior walls breaks down rapidly under UV light. The insulation cracks, leaving live wires exposed to the elements and touch.

System Database: Ready Electric FAQs

Do all outdoor outlets need to be GFCI protected?
Yes. The National Electrical Code (NEC) strictly mandates that all 120-volt, single-phase, 15- and 20-ampere receptacles installed outdoors must have ground-fault circuit-interrupter (GFCI) protection. Furthermore, they must use WR (Weather Resistant) rated receptacles and be covered by a weatherproof "in-use" hood.
Can you just bury regular indoor wire underground?
Absolutely not. Standard indoor Romex wire will quickly rot when exposed to soil moisture. Underground wiring requires either UF-B (Underground Feeder) cable rated for direct burial, or individual THWN wires pulled through watertight PVC conduit. Ready Electric ensures strict adherence to trenching codes.
How deep do electrical wires need to be buried?
Trench depth depends on the method used. Rigid metal conduit typically only requires 6 inches of depth. PVC conduit must be buried at least 18 inches deep. Direct burial UF cable (without conduit) requires a trench depth of 24 inches to prevent accidental severing during landscaping.
