One Appliance, One Circuit
Most homes built before the 1970s were wired with a handful of general circuits shared by whole rooms. Plug a modern microwave, air fryer and coffee maker into the same kitchen circuit and the breaker trips. That’s the breaker doing its job.
The fix isn’t a bigger breaker. Swapping a 15 amp breaker for a 20 amp one on the same wire is a fire risk, and it’s one of the most common unsafe repairs we find. The right fix is a new circuit sized for the load.
240V appliances always need their own. Electric ranges, dryers, water heaters, spas, heat pumps and EV chargers each need a dedicated 240V circuit with the right wire size and breaker.
Your panel has to have room. If it’s full, we’ll show you the options, from rearranging circuits to adding a sub-panel or upgrading the panel.
