A Three-Prong Outlet Isn’t Proof of a Ground
Many older homes have had two-prong outlets swapped for three-prong outlets without adding a ground wire. They look modern, but the ground pin isn’t connected to anything. Surge protectors and electronics can’t do their job without a real ground.
There’s more than one right fix. We can run a ground wire, replace the circuit, or protect ungrounded outlets with GFCI and label them “No Equipment Ground,” which code allows as a replacement option. We’ll explain which fits your home and budget.
The whole house needs a grounding system too. Ground rods and bonding to water and gas piping connect your electrical system to earth. Plumbing repairs and remodels sometimes break those connections.
