Why so Many Electricians Recommend Replacing FPE Panels
Federal Pacific Stab-Lok panels were common in homes built from the 1950s through the 1980s. Independent testing has found that some Stab-Lok breakers can fail to trip during an overload or short circuit, which is exactly what a breaker is supposed to do.
The breakers can also fit loosely in the panel, which can cause overheating at the connection.
Insurance and home sales bring it up. Home inspectors routinely flag FPE panels, and some insurers ask about them or decline to cover homes that have one.
Replacement is the reliable fix. We replace the panel, update breakers to modern standards, and handle the permit, utility coordination and inspection.
