The Danger Isn’t the Fuse. It’s the Workarounds
A fuse box can be safe when it’s used correctly. The trouble is that fuses blow often in older homes with modern loads, and the common fix is a bigger fuse. A 30 amp fuse on a circuit wired for 15 lets the wire overheat inside the wall without ever blowing.
Insurance often forces the issue. Many insurers won’t write a policy on a home with a fuse box, or charge more for it. It frequently comes up during a sale.
It’s usually a service upgrade too. Homes with fuse boxes often have 60 amp service. Replacing the fuse box is the right time to size the service for EV chargers, heat pumps and ADUs. Ready Electric handles the permitting, utility coordination and paperwork.
