Grid Expansion Protocol

Sub-Panel Installation

Out of physical space in your main breaker box? We install high-capacity sub-panels to safely expand your home's electrical grid, providing dedicated power for ADUs, workshops, home additions, and heavy appliances.

Diagnostic Warning: Capacity Limits

PHYSICAL LIMIT REACHED

No Empty Slots

If your main panel is completely full of breakers, you cannot safely add new circuits for an EV charger, hot tub, or kitchen remodel without expansion.

ILLEGAL MODIFICATION

Double-Tapped Breakers

Attempting to squeeze two wires into a single breaker designed for one is a severe code violation that leads directly to overheating and electrical fires.

LOAD IMBALANCE

Voltage Drops

Running heavy power tools in a garage or relying on a single distant main panel causes severe voltage drops, damaging expensive machinery and appliances.

COMPLIANCE FAILURE

ADU Code Violations

Building an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) or guest house requires its own dedicated sub-panel for safe load distribution and legal LA County permitting.

Capacity Expansion Solutions

[ ADU ZONING ]

ADU & Guest Houses

We install dedicated sub-panels for new constructions, giving tenants or guests safe, independent control over their own breakers and power loads.

[ GARAGE GRID ]

Workshops & Garages

Running heavy machinery, welders, or multiple power tools requires localized power. We run heavy-gauge feeder wire to a new garage sub-panel for zero voltage drop.

[ LOAD CALC ]

System Load Balancing

We mathematically calculate your home's total draw to ensure your existing main panel can safely support the heavy feeder breaker required for the new sub-panel.

[ SEPARATION ]

Code Enforcement

Unlike main panels, sub-panels require strict isolation of neutral and ground wires. We engineer your expansion to pass LA County electrical codes flawlessly.

System Database: Sub-Panel FAQs

What is the difference between a main panel and a sub-panel?
Your main panel connects directly to the utility grid and contains the main shut-off breaker. A sub-panel is a smaller satellite box that gets its power from the main panel. It is used to distribute power to a specific area of the house (like a garage, upstairs, or ADU) without running dozens of individual wires all the way back to the main box.
Can I add a sub-panel without upgrading my main panel?
It depends on your current capacity. If you have an older 100-amp main panel that is already struggling, adding a sub-panel will likely overload the entire system. Our master electricians perform a strict Load Calculation to determine if your main grid can support the new feeder breaker required for a sub-panel.
Do I need a city permit to install a sub-panel in LA?
Absolutely. Running new heavy-gauge feeder wire and establishing a new distribution panel is major electrical work. Doing this without a city permit and inspection is a massive code violation, a fire hazard, and will void your homeowner's insurance. We handle all permits for you.
